The Brasslab was founded in 1985 in New York City in the Chelsea community by Chuck McAlexander and Cynthia Keane after several years working in a shop in California. There have always been just the two of us. Chuck is the mechanic, technician, and designer and Cynthia handles the office and shop maintenance. We started the business with just a workbench, vice, torch, mandrels and dent balls, and we only fixed brass musical instruments. Now we have expanded, and have been fixing just about anything made of metal and even some wood and plastic, too.
Since we see all of our customers by appointment only, each customer receives the personal attention required to assure that everyone is satisfied before they leave our store. Chuck still maintains an unconditional guarantee to all customers. Making an appointment also guarantees that no items are left in our store for months and months. Chuck can then focus on your instrument and not be distracted by others.
As that neighborhood changed from a light industry environment to an artist enclave, we decided to move to a light industry neighborhood in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY. We have only been at the new location since May 2011, but we love it already. And, now, we even have lots of light and plenty of fresh air along with our unconditional guarantee.
